Operation: Dano Quest - Part Three, The Final Leg of the Journey

Image
(SORRY FOR THE DELAY! I forgot to Publish!!) Something I keep forgetting to mention. I have a distant cousin who was in India Company with Dano! Yes, my cousin Tyler went through boot in a different platoon, but the same company. I got to see my older cousin Steven (his Dad) and meet my cousin Angela (Tyler's sister), but never  managed to meet up with everyone to meet Tyler and congratulate him. So... in case you see this: Congratz to you my distant cousin (4 times removed or something). Everyone is super proud of you. Let's see... after the graduation, we fought our way through traffic and off of base. We went to get Dano is first off base eats. It was just Applebee's because it was right there and it had all the foods. We were not the only ones. Throughout our lunch we saw many others from India Company come through with their family and friends. After this we decided to wander what is called in this area "The Water Front" Agent B-Lightning and I quick...

Operation: Dano Quest, Part Two

Image
I felt off with Angela and I ducking out and sleeping through dinner. In the long run, that's just fine. We really needed the rest. We woke early and checked out of our hotel so we could get back to Parris Island and get good seats. We originally wanted to see the raising of the colors, but we instead just watched them from afar (in the bleachers). The Parade Deck It was chilly, and I regretted not having a blanket or jacket. We wound up sitting on a spare sweater Angela had in the car. Thank goodness because the bench was not only cold aluminum, but also wet. *yuck* We chatted, drank coffee, and generally just people watched. It was obvious we were still exhausted. An unfortunate side effect of all the gents graduating was their families. A loud and obnoxious woman sat in front of us. She talked over announcements, scolded the children with her over and over, and almost poked out my eye with the sign she had. Oh, and she just had to sit on the end of the bleachers ...

Operation: Dano Quest - Part One

October was a full and very exciting month. The events that took place were all things I will lock in my memory for as long as I have my wits. The end of the month was marked with Adventure!!! My friend Angela and I started to call this adventure Dano Quest . You see, our dear friend Dano left for Parris Island, SC to become a United States Marine back in July. With tears and quiet fanfare he and I said our farewells the Friday before he left. It was a truly heart breaking day. But, from that moment on I cheered and hoped for him that he would make it through. And He Did! So, Dano Quest! You see, Angela and I said right off "Let us know when you graduate... we will make that drive!" On Wednesday October 23rd, just after work, I got into my car and headed for VT where Angela and I began our journey. NH is damn beautiful! #throughglass Hello Dublin NH!! #throughglass  Crossing over into VT is always fun for me, because I have a weird love of bridges. Betwe...

A New Undertaking

Image
So, as you may or may not know I play in a LARP. What the hell is that?! Well, it's a Live Action Role Playing game. Basically, it's Big Kid dress up. Most folks associate it with the movie Role Models and the ever infamous Lightning Bolt YouTube . Well, as well as skating I also LARP. I love it. I've been playing one game for the better part of my life. Since 1995 I have been involved in the New England based LARP The Realms . That's me in the middle;blue coif/chain and sunglasses. Yup, I'm bad ass!And that is my hubby to my left with the leather skull cap on So, the character above, specifically, I have played for the better part of 15 years. She and I have become one in some ways. She helped me to become more confident, and to try new things. Without her, I may never have found myself. Strange, I know. But really think about it. If you could encourage yourself, like all of those self help books tell you to, this is the relationship between the characte...

Dreams

Image
The worst part about dreaming an amazing dream, is waking up. I am saddened to report that the dream house was not the dream we had hoped for. The home inspection revealed so many more problems than we had finances to handle, and so it had to be that my second and I had to walk away. Tomorrow we begin the hunt again. We have a plan. We know what we love, like, and hate. We know what we want. Also, today is October 1st. And for me that marks the beginning of the best month ever. I love Fall in New England. I hope to bring you many pictures #throughglass of Autumnal Adventures! Really, New England has the best seasons. I enjoy each for what it has to offer... at least for a little while (snow gets old fast, as does humidity). Anywho, that is the house update. More on the rest of life later when I have a moment... like, Roller Derby and the 2014 season and all of those things I keep blah-blah-blahing about!

End of the Season-Reflections

Image
Well, this past Saturday my Roller Derby travel season came to an end in a most epic fashion . Thank you Hudson Valley Horrors for being such wonderful hosts. Copyright 2013, Gregory Paret It marked the end of an era as well. My dear friend and long time teammate Atari Joykick is officially retired. It makes me happy to know she found so many wonderful things to celebrate in life while we skated together. I am filled to the brim with pride at the leaps and bounds she made as an athlete through her years. It makes me sad to think she will not be there to help forge more memories. It makes me sad that I cannot say "Heya E-man!" to her son at every practice and every scrimmage. But is makes me over joyed, overwhelmed, and completely full of pride to know I was able to share such an epic journey with such a wonderful, loving, and dedicated woman. She is my hero. Tears of joy for being chosen MVP. Copyright 2013, Gregory Paret Her last bout ever was last Saturday, ...
