A New Undertaking

So, as you may or may not know I play in a LARP. What the hell is that?! Well, it's a Live Action Role Playing game. Basically, it's Big Kid dress up. Most folks associate it with the movie Role Models and the ever infamous Lightning Bolt YouTube.
Well, as well as skating I also LARP. I love it. I've been playing one game for the better part of my life. Since 1995 I have been involved in the New England based LARP The Realms.

So, the character above, specifically, I have played for the better part of 15 years. She and I have become one in some ways. She helped me to become more confident, and to try new things. Without her, I may never have found myself.
Strange, I know. But really think about it. If you could encourage yourself, like all of those self help books tell you to, this is the relationship between the character and I. I told her "You can defeat that dragon!" and she told me "You can be a real world hero!"

Well, the adventure of this character finally came to a close. An end came in a sad yet epic fashion. At the event Now to Stab The Serpents Heart: Part the Second she decided it was time to go. It was super emotional, and sad in ways.
But... you'll see for yourself someday!

With the end of her official story, I have begun a new project. This one will be a continuous work in progress. This one will be a labor of love and hopefully come to fruition in several parts.

Yes, I am writing her story. I am going to record the tales of Freesia Den'ier....

14 years, 9 titles, countless adventures and  companions... and some creative licenses. I hope she turns out as I remember, as I feel her to be. I hope others understand that I remember one thing, and they will remember another. Nothing is the same from person to person, and I hope to portray my friend (characters of friends) well.

The Grey Lady

For FolkeWood questing, I was tasked by Neil with creating a living statue costume. And by tasked, I mean I jumped at the chance to do it. So, how did it all come together? Well, it was weeks of research, planning, and execution with the aid of several people. I feel that the Realms would benefit from knowing how things were made when it comes to big costumes and props. I also hope that with this, we can up our costuming game. Let’s start with the dress. We knew the look we were going for was pseudo Greek. I scoured Halloween costumes for the right piece. I found this : As you can see, it is not in the least bit grey, nor was it in any way stiff. With help from Jana “Jynx” Greene and a little more research we found that the next step was to cover the whole dress in Liquid Latex. Jana found the Rub-R-Mold Liquid Latex. Idaho! The Zen of Losing

Well Blog-o-verse, we knew when I started this thing I was bad at updates. Luckily we have had some adventures, so I have something to write about (finally). NH Roller Derby sent the All Stars team to Idaho for the 5th annual Spudtown Knockdown tournament. We went in with high hopes of taking at least one win and having close games, but that was just not to be. We experienced something teams have happen all the time; The Blow Out. Yep, we lost and we lost hard with each game. But, while losing, something wonderful happened. I have been on the All Stars team off and on since 2008 (2013 and 2014, I declined the opportunity to try out). For the first time (that I can remember) not a single person gave up on our bench, no one was blamed or shamed, everyone was given a chance to play and show their worth, every skater smiled and pushed hard, and no one was angry at the rest of the team.
