Oh The Roads We Travel

Image
There is something I need to do more of: travel! Yes, I need some more adventure in my life. Recently a friend was talking about her "Bucket List" and asked a poignant question: Do you think they are insincere and cheesy or inspirational and help people to think outside the box when making their own lists? It was a real chin-scratcher. I feel they are not cheesy at all, if there is real thought put into them. Originally, I had intended that one sentence to be my reply. Instead, I gave her this: [begin transmission] Some people take their "bucket list" to an extreme, others prefer to keep it tame.  It's all about you and what you want out of life. I have things ranging from simple to extreme. I want to ride a horse bareback on the beach. I also want to skydive. I want to eat a century egg!  These excite me in different ways. And will fulfill one thing: Experience. Life is not about things, it's about living. The first thing you do when y...

Another Week Gone By!

Image
Saturday the 13th I was witness to a beautiful and wonderful occasion. My dears friends and former league mates tied the knot! It was an amazing ceremony. One of the brides, Gina, was floored to find out that Trina and I had skipped a Cherry Bombs bout to attend. Aren't the beautiful! Of course I skipped!!! Do you see that picture? Do you see the ones below?! Wouldn't have missed it for all the roller derby ever!!! The energy was perfect. The day was sunny, warm, and just right.  They both glowed. One of the most delicious cakes ever! Our Derby family!! It was great to spend so much time with such wonderful friends and to see Brenda and Gina get hitched. I wish them a long and happy life together. They deserve it and I was honored to be a guest! Sunday the Mr and I went on a nice long ride with some friends. We rode out to Curtis' BBQ in VT with May B Knotty, Woody Yankabitch and Mrs. Yankabitch (Jo) as well as May's friend. Such a fun ride... a...

Pacific Rim - Not Through Glass...

Image
So, here is the "ravings and reviews" part of this blog. Sunday night my husband and I saw Pacific Rim with my step daughter and her other half Nos. Dear Dog! What a terrible story! Empty characters. Poorly written and delivered lines. A-typical and predictable plot. Special Effects were great, I'll give it that. But, I found myself terribly bored. Mr Pirate and I agreed, if it had been split into two or was a series or mini-series, they could have done better and given actual depth. As a movie goer I like to feel attached to a character (really, when Wash in Serenity bit it... I screamed in the theater! I was not alone). There was a cold, detachment, and a "Good, I'm glad he died" feeling with Pacific Rim . I think what would have done it for me was if Charlie Hunnam had taken his shirt of one or eight more times. I fear that when SoA ends, Mr Hunnam may be out of work because of this movie. *ugh* So, there is a movi...

And then that happened...

So, all in all my Google Glass experience has been a wonderful one. I get great questions, have taken pictures of things I might have normally missed, and have been able to make a call while getting a tattoo! Not a picture of *getting* the tattoo, but a picture *of* the tattoo. Keven, my tattoo guy, was intrigued by Glass and appeared to be a little amused I took a call while in his chair. All in all, I have had the pleasure and wonder of amazing experiences. My biggest downside/complaint is eye fatigue. Yes, I feel my right eye gets a little tired, or feels like I have a false lash on (on of the huge ones). But, with time, it has lessened. I have also been able to play with the Video options off an on. Yup... driving! All of the fun has been amazing! All of the tech has been fantastic! And... all of the tragedy of accidents has been mine as well. I have had the misfortune of being one of the few that has broken my Google Glass. Yes, I broke them. It was a horrific acc...

Sunday of ECDX

Image
Finally getting to this post. Sunday of ECDX was a lot of watching derby action as well as some amazing reactions to Google Glass! We watched Columbia, Team USA, I saw the final moments of Philly vs Windy (wow!)... and much more! In lieu of posting a play by play I suggest reading my captions: Mr. (Dan) Monet tried on Glass and he added to my pictures of myself through Glass. :-) This guy was amazed! I let him try on Glass and he was astounded and stated he could not WAIT to get a pair of his own. Also, he and his friend had some of the BEST Ice Cream I have ever had the pleasure of tasting. The guys at Concessions had no clue. They were amazed at technology in general. I do not think they were Amish, but I also am in doubt they have smart phones. I could not get Philly vs Windy to upload here... so I put it on YouTube ! We met while watching Team USA vs Team Canada. This is her reaction as she watched me take her picture via the screen cast. I am sorry new fri...

Saturday of ECDX

Saturday was my game day. So, the Queen City Cherry Bombs met up for a late breakfast down the road at the Suburbia Diner .We had the pleasure of having a gentleman named Abdul as our waiter. He was patient, understanding, and fast! Yay Breakfast! Dan was all "WHOA! PICTURE TAKING!" Priss was feeling sassy. Scott: What's that on your face, Irate?!   YES! There was Pie for Breakfast!!! I and my roomies took our sweet time getting ready after breakfast, and I finally  took my first "Glass Self Portrait" Yup! That's me!!! Once we were finally ready to go we gathered our gear, hopped the shuttle and headed off to the venue. We arrived and immediately went to rink 1 to get set up, check the floor, and watch some other Derby in action! Let's gear up early And hang out a little. We had a chance to then skate... and then it was all "Go Go GO!" for a 30 minute bout against the Philly Block Party . It was a tough 30 min...

Friday of ECDX!

Image
Well, I had one hell of an amazing weekend. I met some derby idols, was too shy to talk to others, played with Glass, and made some amazing friends. (That was your "too long, didn't read" version that should cover the next three posts.) So here is the beginning... Friday! The weekend began early Friday morning. Birds were chirping, the sun was rising, clouds floated gentlry past my window and I awoke refreshed from a peaceful nights sleep. I was ready for the long drive to Feasterville, PA fro ECDX 2013 ! Or, it was more like this...  At least there was coffee ready. I was so nervous I forgot to pack things I was up until almost 1am. I tossed and turned, repacked a few times, and eventually slept some. Once I was finally caffeinated, I was ready to begin. So, I loaded my things and waited for DKB and JC to arrive (and drank more coffee) . Once they arrived we headed out, stopped for Gas and were bound for Atari 's. And then... we were OFF! Really,...
