Oh The Roads We Travel

There is something I need to do more of: travel! Yes, I need some more adventure in my life.

Recently a friend was talking about her "Bucket List" and asked a poignant question: Do you think they are insincere and cheesy or inspirational and help people to think outside the box when making their own lists?

It was a real chin-scratcher.

I feel they are not cheesy at all, if there is real thought put into them. Originally, I had intended that one sentence to be my reply. Instead, I gave her this:

Some people take their "bucket list" to an extreme, others prefer to keep it tame.  It's all about you and what you want out of life.

I have things ranging from simple to extreme. I want to ride a horse bareback on the beach. I also want to skydive. I want to eat a century egg!  These excite me in different ways. And will fulfill one thing: Experience.
Life is not about things, it's about living. The first thing you do when you are born is take a breath and scream. Why? No one truly knows, but I like to think it's because your lungs are new and the sound is exciting.

I started playing Roller Derby because I needed something, a new experience. I started playing Realms for the same reason. Something new. Both have given me experiences and stories and friends that I treasure.
I already can look around my life and say "Hot damn! Look at that."
I hope you get to do that soon, too!
I would be honored if you let me come along for some adventures, as well! (New things! Friends! LIFE!)

Oh... and also... Don't let the list control you as you add and check off things. Don't get upset because "XYZ" isn't likely. It's okay. Dreams don't always have to come true. Half the fun is dreaming. Let the experiences of life take you anywhere and everywhere.

So, there it is. My thoughts on adventures before there is no more time for adventures. AKA: Thoughts on the Bucket List!

Really, that is how I feel about it.I sincerely believe everything I said. I stand by it. No, you don't always stay true to "the list"... sometimes other adventures come along and bump everything down or up or over. No big deal. You still had your adventure.

I've got a nice list.
I really cannot wait to get to some of it. But... it's all about pacing myself.

The Grey Lady

For FolkeWood questing, I was tasked by Neil with creating a living statue costume. And by tasked, I mean I jumped at the chance to do it. So, how did it all come together? Well, it was weeks of research, planning, and execution with the aid of several people. I feel that the Realms would benefit from knowing how things were made when it comes to big costumes and props. I also hope that with this, we can up our costuming game. Let’s start with the dress. We knew the look we were going for was pseudo Greek. I scoured Halloween costumes for the right piece. I found this : As you can see, it is not in the least bit grey, nor was it in any way stiff. With help from Jana “Jynx” Greene and a little more research we found that the next step was to cover the whole dress in Liquid Latex. Jana found the Rub-R-Mold Liquid Latex. Idaho! The Zen of Losing

Well Blog-o-verse, we knew when I started this thing I was bad at updates. Luckily we have had some adventures, so I have something to write about (finally). NH Roller Derby sent the All Stars team to Idaho for the 5th annual Spudtown Knockdown tournament. We went in with high hopes of taking at least one win and having close games, but that was just not to be. We experienced something teams have happen all the time; The Blow Out. Yep, we lost and we lost hard with each game. But, while losing, something wonderful happened. I have been on the All Stars team off and on since 2008 (2013 and 2014, I declined the opportunity to try out). For the first time (that I can remember) not a single person gave up on our bench, no one was blamed or shamed, everyone was given a chance to play and show their worth, every skater smiled and pushed hard, and no one was angry at the rest of the team.
